Nestled in the landscapes of southwest Sicily, the M.O.N. Art Residency Program is both laboratory and sanctuary. We invite writers, visual artists, musicians, land artists, and scientists to converge in an interdisciplinary, emergent container.

Our philosophy rests on the notion that human beings have never encountered nature as neutral information. Eclipses have been read as omens, storms as divine interventions, the night sky as calendar, map and cosmology. Plants have carried medicinal, sacred and political meanings. Volcanoes, fossils and ruins have forced cultures to imagine forms of time far beyond an individual’s life.

Science gives us increasingly precise accounts of these phenomena. Myth, religion and folklore reveal how societies have interpreted them. Art, we believe, can beautifully hold both—empirical reality and human projection, evidence and wonder, matter and meaning.

The M.O.N Art Foundation invites artists, experimenters, and thinkers to consider how we can make planetary forces, ecological interdependence, and deep time emotionally perceptible, without reducing them to illustration or vague mysticism.
